How to perfect your 60 second pitch

In this episode of The Bookkeepers’ Podcast we spoke to Gill Russel, our very own Member Success Coordinator about experiences, strategies, and tips for effective networking. This blog post summarises the insightful conversation that unfolded.

Types of networking

We discussed different types of networking, such as speed networking while walking or over dinner. In our view, being yourself and enjoying the events makes for a much more positive experience than focusing solely on selling.

A great phrase to use when seeing somebody else struggling with networking is “Would you like to come and join us?” We also discussed grabbing a coffee or a drink as a way to break the ice and initiate connections.

Overcoming nerves

We believe in preparation as a great way to handle nerves. This includes researching the event, preparing an introduction, and practicing beforehand. While networking can feel intimidating when it’s new to you, there is huge value in practicing introductions and receiving feedback from others to improve your approach.

The perfect pitch

In the discussion, Gill shared an outline pitch to help you structure what you want to say. This starts with the “reverse James Bond” technique to make your pitch memorable, focusing on your name and how you can help relieve business owners’ pain points.

Building relationships

In this discussion, we also thought about our ideal client and how referral partners could help us reach more of those people. It can start as simply as with building your network within your friendship group.
