How to find clients without social media

In this episode of The Bookkeepers’ Podcast, we spoke to Steph Merrill about finding clients without social media. Steph has quickly built an impressive practice and a diverse clientele without relying on social media.

From corporate job to entrepreneurship

Steph’s journey to entrepreneurship was not a conventional one. After being pushed out of her corporate job, she found the confidence to start her own business. Despite initial doubts and fears, she attended a networking event where she met her first client in need of help with cash flow management.

Originally, Steph offered tax returns and compliance services but soon realiSed the need to diversify her offerings to meet the needs of her clients. She found interim work through a recruitment consultant after a networking event, maintaining a valuable relationship.

Cash flow management and debt restructuring

One of Steph’s key areas of expertise is cash flow management. She shared how she helped a client understand their financial situation and restructure their debt. This personalised service and tailored advice are what make her stand out from the crowd.

Networking

Steph’s story is a great example of the power of building personal relationships through networking events, coffee shop gatherings and a monthly walk-and-talk event when her schedule allows for it.

Success Lounge

Steph joined the Success Lounge in 2022 and saw her turnover double the following year. By March 2023, she had hit a six-figure turnover, attributing this growth to the kickstart provided by Bookkeepers’ Bootcamp.

Networking Tips

Steph shared how her goals are to enjoy the networking process. In the podcast we discuss ways of making networking more comfortable. She also shares tips for new networkers, including building confidence
